Philosophy

DEMAC’s philosophy is a compilation of the following phrases:

  • To recapture one´s own writing is a right. Learning to write does not imply to own one´s writing.
  • To recapture one’s own writing with the finality to communicate our own ideas. Autobiographical writing is a way to own our writing.
  • Autobiographical writing has begun to set a trend and a style among modern women and not just confined to a select intellectual circle.
  • Women have a long standing tradition of self writing in the form of diaries and letters, though mostly in their vast majority have never been published.

To write our own story sets in motion a curious array of reactions. Ana Emilia Villa Issa, author of El zumo de la amapola, published by DEMAC says “Of course my family relations changed due to having written my own story. My husband, my children found new ingredients to spice their love for me: I gained their admiration” DEMAC Awards, For women that have the courage to tell their story, are summoned periodically. The objective of the DEMAC Awards does not promote literary writing per se, but to publish the autobiographical stories that are narrated with honesty, courage and consistent to the unveiled reality of mexican women.
